Whenever I happened to catch it, I would watch the Bernie Mac show. I would be smiling or laughing throughout the whole show. He would have these sidebars where he was talking to America about his woes and thoughts. Loved it.
I think the other thing I really loved was his interaction with his nephew and nieces. He is taking care of them while his sister is getting her life together from drugs. I liked that realistic premise. And though he would roll his eyes hilariously and lament his lack of understanding of why children do various things, he took care of them extremely well. He may have made mistakes, as we all do, but it always came from good intentions. In today's day and age when it appears family shows showcase underlying poor ethical messages and humor targeted at I don't know who, Bernie Mac gave us good messages delivered humorously.
My favorite Bernie Mac line to the kids "Don't make me bust your head til the white meat shows." It still makes me laugh heh.
We had some friends over for dinner last night and we were just discussing how short life is and making choices to enjoy now more. They are strong theists so they don't have the same sense of it as my husband and I do, as we don't believe in any hereafter. My husband and I have been discussing him taking a few years off from the rat race. He has some software ideas he wants to give a go and also spend more time with the munchkins. Blasted healthcare is the main thing that worries him, but I believe we can get coverage for at least 18 months with CORBA. Not 100% sure. But him seeing the "Bernie Mac Dies at 50" made him think about it even more.
