Phew! No Cancer

So last week I coughed up a decent amount of blood while brushing my teeth. I checked my mouth to see if I'd nicked something while brushing, but blood only came out when I coughed. Tried to schedule an appointment with my doc, but they told me to go to the ER instead. Fun, fun.

They ran a bunch of tests on me and then had me come back this morning with an empty stomach to do a bronchoscopy. The pulmonologist wanted to rule out lung cancer which can also cause all the signs/symptoms I had.

Good news is I don't have cancer! They said I did have bad bronchitis though even though I'm not coughing like someone with bronchitis. They gave me a steroidal inhaler I'm supposed to suck on for 2 months and it should make it better. I quit smoking Christmas day of 2007. The good news is the doc says my lungs don't look like they have any permanent damage on the road to oxygen tank city. I just have to take care of myself and should be good to go. No more occasional cigars.

They scared the hell out of my husband. When I was in the recovery room, they went out to the waiting room to get him and told him he should go in alone while they watched the boys. He was freaking! He looked worse than me when he walked into the room and I'd had narcotics. =) He was so relieved when he heard I was well. I asked a minute later if our sons could come into the room and the nurse said "Your boys are great. They can definitely come in." So my guess is the "alone" thing is their way of preventing wild children from being in the back with recuperating patients. Keep our blood pressure from spiking. =P

Holy heck! I'm very happy you are 'clean', just reading about it scared the jeebus out of me.
(Glad you put the results in the title) Had a similar scare a while back ,kinda hard to have peace of mind when you don't know...
Have some peace.
Best,
